Velester Smith Debro is a product of Birmingham City Schools, graduating from Ensley High School. Mrs. Debro received her Bachelor and Masters degrees from the University of  Alabama, Birmingham and later became certified as a librarian from Alabama State University. Her career as an educator began in 1989 as a Biology teacher at the historic Woodlawn High School. After many years, she became the Library Media Specialist at Wenonah High School, Woodlawn High School School  and Lead Media Specialist at Everman High School in Everman, TX.

When she is not reading a good book, she enjoys walking, travelling, quilting and riding her motorcycle.
