Greetings! My name is Tara Newell.  I am a proud product of Birmingham City Schools. During my time in the Birmingham City School System, my life was touched by some of the most remarkable teachers in the world.   I wanted to play it forward by providing that same, love, motivation, and energy that I was shown so many years ago. 

I have 33 years of experience in the field of library science. I began my career with the Birmingham Public Library System.  However, my love for reading, teaching, and children lead me to a career working in the school system.  I have been at Oliver Elementary School for 11 years and a Library Media Specialist in the community for over 20 years.

I am married to Jerry Newell. We have four wonderful children and a host of grandchildren. 

Reading gives me an opportunity to learn new things, visit incredible places,meet interesting people, gain new perspectives, and provides a source of entertainment without having to leave the comfort of my home. 

My goal, as your child's library media specialist, is to foster a life long love and appreciation for literature.  With that being said, it gives me great pleasure to have the opportunity to take your children with me as we embark in this incredible journey of reading. 

Hobbies

I enjoy reading, scrapbooking, gardening, shopping, and spending time with my grandchildren.
