Greetings to Parents, Community, Students, and All Educational Stakeholders!

I am Marcia Henderson, Principal of Robinson Elementary School.  I come to you full of joy and excitement for the opportunity to serve as a school leader.  I am even more excited for the opportunity to change and have an impact on the lives of so many little ones.  My passion has always been to teach and provide a positive pathway for those around me.

My history in education began at Miles College where I received my B.S. in Elementary Education.  Thereafter, I sought and received my Masters in Elementary Education from Alabama State University and an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree from University of Alabama at Birmingham.  As I continued the path of education, I sought and received an additional Masters in Instructional Leadership.

While continuing to increase my knowledge level as an educator, my educational experience consists of seven years as a fourth-grade teacher at Barrett Elementary School, and a fifth-grade teacher at Going Elementary School.

I later transferred to Wenonah Elementary School for two years, where I became a Building-Based Alabama Reading First Initiative Reading Coach.  In this position, my focus was Reading and the deliverance of "Best Practice" strategies.  This deliverance was through the provision of explicit instruction for students and the implementation of coaching and professional development for teachers.

Two years later, I gained the awesome opportunity to work with the State Department of Education as a Regional Trainer for the Alabama Reading Initiative.  I served as Regional Trainer for approximately thirteen years in approximately seven school systems to include Birmingham City Schools.

In 2016, I returned to Birmingham City Schools as an Assistant Principal at Ossie Ware Mitchell Middle School.

I am so pleased to now serve as Principal of Robinson Elementary School.  This opportunity created the pathway for me to touch the lives of so many little ones, to ensure excellence, accountability, and high expectations for everyone.  I happily charge myself with the responsibility to inspire and further develop those who will educate your children, to provide an education of both equality and equity and to set the bar of high expectations.  I am a strong believer in "Failure is not an Option" and exercise this belief each day at Robinson Elementary School.

Thank you for entrusting me with your students,

Sincerely,

Marcia Henderson, Principal
