PBIS

What is PBIS?

The Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) system is an evidence-based approach for creating a common vision of behavioral expectations through consistent language and practices among staff and students. The system allows the school to develop supports to address the needs of ALL the members of the school community.

Why PBIS?

The result is increased positive teaching and learning environments. An environment of success will benefit from positive results such as:

  • Increased instructional time

  • Increased academic performance

  • Increased attendance

  • Decreased time out of class

  • Reduction in problem behavior

  • Improved organizational efficiency

  • Reduction in staff turnover

  • Reduction in teacher reported bullying behavior and peer rejection

  • Systems to prevent vs a "wait to fail" approach

A Natural Fit

PBIS is a natural fit for Winchester Public Schools.  The core of PBIS aligns to our Strategic Plan:

  • Socially Responsible

  • Empowered and Prepared

  • Authentically Engaged

  • Passionate and Inquisitive

  • Effective Communicators

How Will It Be Successful?

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction will ensure that  all schools have the necessary technical assistance, collaborative opportunities, and evaluative tools needed to implement PBIS with fidelity in classroom and non-classroom areas.

We will address the targeted needs of individual students through division-based approved interventions, while providing support to teachers, students and families.

We will implement and support a mult-tiered data-driven framework with a continuous improvement process to ensure all schools are effective learning environments for all students and staff.
