A quarter of a million high school and middle school students, college and university students, faculty, educators, administrators, and business professionals have chosen to be members of the premier business education association preparing students for careers in business.

The members of OSSIE WARE MITCHELL MIDDLE SCHOOL FBLA - Middle Level attended the Alabama Joint Leadership Development Conference November 17-18 at the BJCC.

More than 4,500 students were in Birmingham the last two days for the 2016 Joint Leadership Development Conference, aimed at preparing youngsters for career and college success.

Middle School and high school students from across the state who are involved with Alabama’s JROTC programs, Career Technical Student Organizations [DECA, FBLA, FCCLA, FFA, HOSA, SkillsUSA, and TSA], JROTC and the Jobs for Alabama’s Graduates programs were invited to the two-day event, held at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Complex.

Students were able to participate in more than 30 leadership workshops and interactive activities and visit with nearly 100 state and national industries, as well as the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama, Manufacture Alabama, and CARCAM.

Bill Taylor, president of the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama, said the leadership training going on at the conferenced is “critical” to developing a well-rounded student.

“Just look around at the hands-on experience and knowledge these students are gaining,” he said. “Then on the other side of that, these companies can show their wares. It’s education outside of the classroom.”

We would like to welcome these fine, young students to the fastest growing division in the FBLA Organization: FBLA-Middle Level. With more than 20,000 members nationwide, FBLA has exploded at junior high and middle schools. Members participate in a variety of activities including job shadow programs, community service projects, and American enterprise projects.

Members even earn recognition on the local, state, and national levels! The Middle Level Achievement Program (MAP) is an individual member program designed to reward those FBLA-Middle Level members who excel in their participation in a variety of activities in the areas of service, education, and leadership. The following named individuals have expressed an interest in developing leadership, communication, and team skills, as well as exploring this organization to meet and network with other middle level students at the local and state levels.

Dear Parents,

Future Business Leaders of America is a co-curricular component of the Business/Marketing program.  This student organization enhances classroom instruction, develop leadership skills, and provide opportunities for professional growth and service. We would like to welcome our new and returning FBLA members. As the advisor, I am excited this year; we have a lot in store for you. One of the activities that we are looking forward to is our National Fall Leadership Conference. This year the conference will be held November 21-23, 2014 in New Orleans, Louisiana. As your advisers we are preparing for this conference, we have found lots of activities that will make this a memorable trip.

The cost of the trip will be $250.00. This amount includes and two nights at the hotel, transportation and registration to the conference. Students will need money for food and spending. Students need to bring two business outfits to wear to the conference and the workshops. The workshops are educational and fun. An itinerary and permission slips will be available in a couple of weeks. The payments are: $125 September 16 and $125 October 1. If you would like to full payments, you may do so as well. We need these amounts to make reservations and to get the early bird rate. Participation is on a first come first serve bases. Payments are non refundable. 

Birmingham City School’s policy states that we have one chaperon for every ten students. We are planning on taking as many students that wants to go and participate. Therefore, if we have more than 10 students I will need to find another chaperone.
