During a regularly-scheduled meeting on May 14, the Birmingham Board of Education recognized three employees with Above and Beyond the Call of Duty awards.
Verna Nixon, Ramsay IB High School: Ms. Nixon's exceptional dedication and tireless efforts in her roles as a CTE Teacher, Testing Coordinator, Senior Advisor, and beyond, truly exemplify and capture the essence of this award. She has demonstrated a commitment to excellence in teaching, implementing innovative instructional strategies, and providing personalized guidance to help her students succeed in their academic and career goals.
Denesha Williams, Green Acres Middle School: Mrs. Williams is an extraordinary, amazing team player and the greatest 6th grade teacher. She is a daily asset to Green Acres Middle School in numerous ways. She arrives to work each and every day with an energetic smile. She constantly goes out of her way to ensure that she makes an impact in the lives of our scholars.
Marva McMullin, Green Acres Middle School: She is an aide to one of our 8th graders who is confined to a wheelchair. She encourages he and his mom to always give their best, so that he is in good spirits and ready to take on whatever challenge that may come his way. She volunteers to do bulletin boards, the champion of the door challenges, hair styling and even more importantly; assists most students with their homework and mid and end of year projects.
