The winningest head baseball coach in A.H. Parker High School AND Birmingham City Schools history has officially earned his place among the greats in the state.

Tyrus Moss, who also serves as Athletic Director and an administrator for the school, was inducted into the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame during a banquet at Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover tonight.

Over his 24 years as coach of Parker’s baseball team, Coach Moss amassed a record of 589-278-1. To put that level of dominance in perspective, Coach Moss has a 0.684 winning percentage, exceeding the winningest active manager in Major League Baseball, current Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, at 0.630.

Coach Moss led the Thundering Herd to the state playoffs eleven times, including 2009 when the team won the Class 5A Region 10 Area Championship and set the school record for wins at 34-5. His teams reigned as Birmingham City Schools champions six times.

Birmingham City Schools has named Coach Moss as its Coach of the Year seven times, with Birmingham Grid Forecaster honoring him with the designation three times. Coach Moss has also had the honor of coaching several all-star games in his career. He coached the Birmingham Metro Team of the East-West All-Stars in 2009 and 2010, with two of his players from Parker playing in those games as well. In 2015 he coached the North Team during AHSAA All-Star Sport Week. During his career, he has coached six players who went on to play for the North team during his career and has seen four of his players earn All-State honors.

He and his wife of 17 years, Jasmine, have three children Shalyn, Brooke, and Bailee. Shalyn is a recent graduate of the University of South Alabama with an bachelor degree in social work; she will earn her master’s degree in May of 2025. Brooke is a Junior at Parker where she plays volleyball and softball while maintaining a 3.7 GPA and serving as Junior rep on the SGA. Bailee is a second grader at W.J. Christian where she enjoys dance, singing, volleyball, and gymnastics.
