My mission as a counselor is to ensure excellence by providing a data-driven, comprehensive program that advocates for students to equitably achieve their potential through the use of individual, small, and whole group sessions that focus on social, academic, and career development in order to maximize the student’s ability to become a responsible citizen and lifelong learner while preparing them to meet and succeed in today’s global society.  As your counselor, I will:

·         Provide direct and indirect counseling services to students

·         Collaborate with teachers, administrators,  parents, and stakeholders on your behalf

·         Refer students and parents to external agencies

Throughout your high school tenure, keep in mind, the road may get tough, and you may even want to quit.  In those times, remember, “The struggle you’re in today is developing the strength you need tomorrow. Don’t give up (Robert Tew).”

It is with great joy that I have the opportunity to counsel the students at Woodlawn High School. I want to thank all stakeholders who are involved with the students for which I provide guidance each day. I hope that I have imparted something in the students that they can use as part of their continued educational success, as well as success in other parts of their lives.

I am a native of Birmingham, Alabama, and a product of Birmingham City Schools. I was a double major at Miles College, receiving a Bachelors of Science degree in Language Arts Education and a Bachelors of Arts degree in English. I received a Master of Education in School Counseling from Alabama State University in which I hold a class A certification. I also hold a Class A Certification in Instructional leadership from UAB. I attended The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa in which I received an Educational Specialist Degree and a Class AA certification in school counseling. I am a graduate of Samford University, from which I received a Doctor of Ed. Degree in educational leadership.

My focus for guidance is to develop a plan that meets the personal, social, educational and career needs of the students. My goal is to contribute to promoting a population of students who are college and/or career ready upon graduation. My continued focus for the students at Woodlawn is to help them to become responsible members of society and to give them the foundation necessary to become life-long learners.
