Mission

At Washington, our mission is to champion students to develop a love of reading and become lifelong learners.  We seek to provide a safe space to learn, explore, discover, and thrive.

Vision

The media center will be the hub of learning and exploration at Washington K-8 School.  We will provide a warm and welcoming environment where students can access a variety of diverse books.  The students and staff will have access to quality resources that encourage students to pursue knowledge and creativity, think critically, and equip themselves with 21st century skills.  The librarian will focus on cultivating collaborative relationships with students and staff.  

Goals

Based on Washington's reading data, goals were established to help the school and district achieve End of Year reading goals.

Goal 1: Provide reading, technology, and research opportunities and support for students and parents

Goal 2: Provide reading technology, and research collaboration and support for teachers 

These goals will be achieved by ongoing communication, instruction, videos, programs, activities, website resources, library resources, online research library (Alabama Virtual Library) access, My On access, Zoom, additional help sessions, and meeting with any stakeholders as needed to provide direct support.
