Architecture & Construction
Are you fascinated with how buildings, bridges, and all sorts of other structures are designed and
built? Do you like the thought of designing a project and seeing it built?
Are you interested in what goes into a construction project? If these sound like your interests, you are definitely suited
for the Academy of Architecture and Construction (AOAC). The AOAC offers two education tracks,
one in Architecture and a second focused on Building Construction. Both offer many career paths
that can include going on to college but also offer ways to jump right into this thriving industry.
The Academy of Architecture and Construction is where you want to be if you dream about having
a career in one of these fields (to name only a few):
FRESHMEN in the AOAC start with a class in Business Technology Applications that helps give you the
tools you need to succeed in the following three years.
In your SOPHOMORE year, if you’re on the Architecture track, you’ll be introduced to Drafting Design,
which will give you the basic tools to begin to make what you want to build come alive through a
design process. If, on the other hand, you are more interested in how things are built instead of how
they’re designed, your junior year will introduce you to Construction Site Preparation.
By your JUNIOR year, you budding architects will take what you learned in Drafting Design and
build on it in Architectural Design. If you’re on the building construction track, your focus will be
on Construction Framing and Foundations. After completion of this year, you will participate in an
internship, where you will be able to practice what you’ve learned in a real-world setting.
SENIORS in the AOAC work with 3D Modeling in the Architecture track and Residential Wiring
in the Building Construction track. After completing this year, you will be ready either to start a
career in the construction industry, or pursue your interest in Architecture in college.
