Engineering

Academies of engineering

If you enjoy understanding how things work, how buildings and bridges are built, what’s inside

computers, and how rockets fly, engineering might be just be the direction for you! Students in
the Academy of Engineering (AOE) dig deep into how things are designed, with hands-on projects
dealing with real-world problems. And when they graduate, they have what it takes to either begin
a career or pursue their passion in college.

The Academy of Engineering is where you want to be if you dream about having a career in one of
these fields (to name only a few):

school classes

FRESHMEN in the AOE start with the design process. They learn how to think through a design
using specialized tools such as the engineer’s workbook, and 3D modeling. This is where you learn
to think like an engineer.

In your SOPHOMORE year, you’ll really be learning some of the nuts and bolts of engineering.
Sophomores begin to learn college preparatory disciplines such as: mechanics, energy, statics,
materials, and kinematics.

By your JUNIOR year, you’ll be learning about the engineering that makes things like mobile phones,
MP3 players, laptop computers, and HDTV work.

SENIORS in the AOE work with industry professionals to define, build, and test solutions to realworld
problems. Here you begin to see how the previous three years prepared you for doing those
things you only imagined you could do before. Now you understand how math is actually used in the
real world. Now you’re ready to start a career, or move on to greater things at college.
