The Academics Division of Birmingham City Schools, led by Chief Academic Officer Dr. Pamela Williams, is committed to delivering high-quality, student-centered education to over 20,000 students across 43 schools. Our diverse educational offerings include a virtual school, two specialized newcomer centers, and an alternative program designed to meet the unique needs of all learners.
We strive to create an environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally, empowering them with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in college, their careers, and their lives.
Our dedicated educators work collaboratively to ensure that every student receives the support and resources they need to reach their full potential, whether in traditional classrooms, virtual learning settings, or specialized programs. Through innovative teaching, data-driven strategies, and a commitment to equity, the Academics Division is focused on fostering lifelong learners prepared to excel in an ever-changing world.

Simply put, it is a process of systematically documenting the performance of students as evidence of the need for additional services after making changes in classroom instruction. Learn more here.
