Birmingham Fire & Rescue truck at Woodlawn High School for active shooter drill

Today, we held an active shooter drill at Woodlawn High School with Birmingham Police Department and Birmingham Fire and Rescue.

Faculty and staff of Woodlawn High School, along side district personnel, police officers, and emergency medical technicians, enacted an active shooter scenario and walked through the emergency response plan for such an instance. The exercise included a review of the team's performance in the exercise.

"Safety is a priority in Birmingham city schools and we want to be certain that we're doing everything to ensure that our scholars, our employees are safe when they come into our facilities," said Stewart Stewart, Communications Officer for Birmingham City Schools, in an interview with WVTM NBC-13 News. "We're fortunate to work with Birmingham Police Department, Birmingham Fire and Rescue to assess where we are, what we do and how we do it."

BCS Media also deployed its media and mobile command center, an integral part of BCS emergency response.
