Board Meeting Format

MEETING SCHEDULE AND SUMMARY

School board meetings are normally held on the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m., in the auditorium of the Administration Building located at 2015 Park Place North, Birmingham, Alabama, 35203. If the location changes, it will be announced and posted on social media.

BOARD MEETING ETIQUETTE

Individuals may only address the board during the "Community Voice" section of the meeting. A sign-up sheet is made available prior to the start of the meeting. Flash photography is permitted during recognitions. Audience members are asked to silence cell phones and refrain from comments and discussions during the meeting.

SPEAKING AT BOARD MEETINGS

Individuals may address the board during the "Community Voice" section of the meeting. Persons wishing to speak may sign up prior to the start of the meeting. Each individual is allowed two minutes.

THE AVERAGE MEETING

School board meetings may vary in length, with most lasting 1½ hours. Occasionally, work sessions are held prior to a business meeting or at another date/time. These are open to the public. When discussing certain matters, as determined by the Code of Alabama, the board may move into closed session. A typical agenda consists of:

  • Invocation and Pledge

  • Adoption of Meeting Agenda

  • Approval of Minutes

  • Reports & Presentations

  • Consent Agenda

  • Action Items

  • Board and Superintendent Highlighs

  • Community Voice

  • Adjournment
