Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library puts books into the hands and hearts of children around the world. Imagination Library books are specially selected age-appropriate, high-quality titles. These books are delivered to registered children each month from birth to age five. Each one is personalized with the child’s name and mailed directly to the child’s home. This effort creates a gifting experience making books exciting and shows the child someone is thinking of them.

The Birmingham Public Library has a new Bookmobile. The vehicle, called BPL Mobile, is far more than a traditional bookmobile, and offers a variety of library services beyond having books and DVDs on board. On BPL Mobile, patrons will be able to take advantage of many services available in libraries across Birmingham – use computers, get access to free Wi-Fi, and obtain Citizen services such as notarizing, fax and printing. In addition, BPL Mobile will take programs on the road such as library story times and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math).
For more information, contact the Birmingham Public Library or visit Birmingham Public Library - Locations - Mobile (cobpl.org).
Need Help Paying for Internet?
The City of Birmingham, in partnership with the Affordable Connectivity Program and EducationSuperHighway, is presenting Connect99, an awareness campaign to inform residents about a federal subsidy towards internet service.
“Having the ability to connect to high-speed internet is now a basic need,” said Birmingham Mayor Randall L. Woodfin. “We are thrilled that our federal government is providing this service and want to do all we can to make sure eligible residents in all 99 neighborhoods have access to this resource.”
The Affordable Connectivity Program provides eligible households with $30 per month toward high-speed home internet service, making some plans FREE! The ACP benefit can be applied to a new or existing internet plan. Additionally, eligible households will receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from eligible providers, if they contribute more than $10 and less than $50 toward the purchase price.
The GetACP.org pre-enrollment tool simplifies the ACP enrollment process by helping applicants to check their eligibility, determine the easiest way to qualify, identify the documents needed when applying, and find “free with ACP” broadband plans available at their address.
Several enrollment events will be planned across the city. Learn more about them, Connect99 and the ACP at birminghamal.gov/connect99.
