The program includes competitive events, leadership activities, recognition programs and scholarships which are all intended to help develop the future leaders in marketing, management and entrepreneurship. Career technical student organizations (CTSO) enhance a student's experience in the career technical classroom. CTSOs allow students to apply knowledge learned in real-life situations, provide benefit to their community, enrich the lives of the students and prepare the students for the challenges of the future. The Birmingham City School System has a reputation of excellence in CTSOs. BCS students are gold medal winners and have served in leadership positions.

Membership in the TSA prepares students for the challenges of a dynamic world by promoting technological literacy, leadership and problem solving, resulting in personal growth and opportunity.
