Alisha Walker, seventh grade social science teacher at Dupuy Alternative School, is the latest Birmingham City Schools educator to earn the One Class At A Time grant.
The Chick-fil-A Cow and CBS 42 News surprised Ms. Walker last week with check for $1,000. Ms. Walker and her class were featured during the CBS 42 News at 5 broadcast this evening.
Ms. Walker plans to use to equip her students with tablets and laptops and procure educational software to enhance learning in various subjects.
"With a $1,000 grant focused on upgrading classroom technology, my class could experience a significant boost in digital learning," wrote Walker in her grant application.
The award marks the second consecutive month that Walker has secured grant funding. In December, the Alabama Farmers Federation named Walker and the students of the ReAL (Rehabilitate, Retore, Renew) Alternative Program at Dupuy as recipients of the annual Ag in the Classroom Mini Grant. The funding aims to support innovative projects that promote agriculture education among students and the wider community.
"We are thrilled to support Alisha Walker and her students in their efforts to foster a greater understanding of agriculture," said Kimberly A. Earwood, Director of the Women’s Leadership Division. "Their commitment to agriculture education is commendable, and we look forward to seeing the impact of their project."
