Ms. Johnson

Natarcia Johnson, a science teacher at P.D. Jackson-Olin High School, is the latest BCS educator to receive the One Class At A Time Grant.

Representatives from Chick-fil-A and CBS 42 awarded the $1,000 grant to Ms. Johnson during a surprise visit to the school on March 17. The teacher and her 12th-grade class were featured during tonight’s 5 p.m. news broadcast.

The funds will help her acquire new digital microscopes for her human anatomy and physiology classes.

“I recently attended professional development about microscopy. Being introduced to digital microscopes, I decided to purchase a classroom set for my students. Unfortunately, the cost exceeded my pupil supply funds. This grant will help me achieve the goal of introducing digital microscopy to my classes,” said Johnson.

So far during this academic year, high school teachers from Ramsay and Woodlawn have also received the grant. BCS educators from Phillips, Princeton, Dupuy, and Inglenook have also won the award. In addition, a teacher at Parker received the Heart of Education Award, a similar grant from ABC 33/40 and Drummond Company, Inc.
